  • it is a floor with excellent thermal capacity compared to other floors, excellent for underfloor heating / cooling systems
  • the variety of colors and shapes of the marble chips allow for a floor that always looks clean
  • it is easy to keep its aesthetic qualities unaltered over time without difficulty (brilliance, luster)
  • as demonstrated by the ancient Venetian palaces, the Venetian Terrazzo is a floor that lasts over the centuries

HOW TRADITIONAL VENETIAN TERRAZZO IS MADE

Traditional Venetian Terrazzo, being a monolithic flooring with a reinforced concrete base, allows it to be customized with mosaic works, decorative perimeter bands or hand inserts.

The height required for installation is about 7/8 centimeters. The marble grit, 2 / 2.5 cm high, rests on the traditional sand and cement screed, 5/6 cm high.

VENETIAN TERRAZZO PRECAST

FEATURES

EGEM Precast Venetian Terrazzo is basically Traditional Venetian Terrazzo made of slabs.

Precast Venetian Terrazzo is made in our laboratory. Like the Traditional Venetian Terrazzo, it can be customized by type of marble granulate, by size of the granulate, by color of the mixture, by type of seeding, by the possibility of inserting special elements in the seeding (mosaic, glass, metal, …) and by type of finish. The size of the slabs can also be customized according to specific needs. The thickness varies according to the slabs (minimum thickness 2.5 cm).

The slabs are generally laid side by side. The edges of the Veneziano Terrazzo slabs are generally slightly beveled in order to facilitate the installation operations. Otherwise, the edges may be sharp-edged: in this case, once the slabs have been laid, the entire flooring will need to be smoothed in order to remove the slight differences that may form between the juxtaposed slabs.

The installation of Veneziano slabs can be done by local installers as they can be compared to marble slabs. Sometimes the Veneziano Terrazzo Precast is preferred over the traditional one to reduce the final price by using local installers and thus eliminating the costs for the transfer of our artisans.

The laying of Veneziano Terrazzo in Slabs can be carried out on screeds suitable for laying marble floors or on existing floors as long as they are in good condition.

Veneziano Terrazzo Slabs can also be used to cover vertical elements or furnishing elements.

RESINOUS TERRAZZO FLOORING

FEATURES

EGEM has recently added the Resinous Venetian Terrazzo to its production. It is a water-based and non-epoxy resin flooring.

However, the first choice we recommend remains the Traditional Venetian Terrazzo: a natural floor with the guarantee of hundreds of years of realizations.

The advantages of a Resinous Venetian Terrazzo floor compared to a traditional floor are: reduced thickness, possibility of making the floor on various supports, even on top of existing floors, greater speed of the production process on site, greater surface area between expansion joints. On the other hand, the reduced thickness leads to a reduction in the diameter of the granulate to be used in sowing. Generally you will therefore have a Venetian Terrazzo with Fine Grain.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

EGEM Resionou Venetian Terrazzo is a mortar made up of special very fast Portland cements, chemical additives and aggregates with selected granulometry, with good flexibility, to be applied on existing or new floors and subsequently sanded.

Thicknesses from 10 to 20 mm.

TECHNICAL PROPERTIES

  • Various architectural solutions, combining the wide range of colors of the cement base with the wide range of aggregates such as glass, stones, marble, crystals.
  • Possibility of having colored floors without the use of large aggregates (aggregates with size <1mm) with a homogeneous finish.
  • Possibility of making low thickness Venetian Terrazzo floors with much lower prices than epoxy resins.
  • High mechanical resistance, especially to abrasion thanks to the contained aggregates and hardening resulting from the polishing process.
  • Low maintenance costs compared to epoxy resins.
  • Very long useful life thanks to the high resistance of the flooring.
  • High flatness. Compared with other Terrazzo it has a very low presence of porosity.
  • Good resistance to stains and spills if protected with hydrophobic products.
  • High natural shine, given by the sanding process
  • Normal hardening and quick drying (allows the start of sanding after 2 – 5 days from the casting of the flooring)
  • It has no shrinkage (however, respect the joints of the support)
  • It is not subject to the formation of cracks
  • It does not require curing agents

REALIZATION ON SITE

The surface on which the Resinous Venetian Terrazzo Floor is made must be clean, free of dust, grease and of good consistency, with no loose or flaking parts.

The substrate must have a minimum tensile strength of 1.5 MPa.

The floor must be dry with a maximum humidity of 4%, without capillary rising.

Cracks in the pavement need to be repaired. Any loose or inconsistent parts must be removed and repaired.

The surface must be carefully prepared by scarifying, shot peening or grinding, then it must be carefully vacuumed.

The surface does not require curing agents.

If the substrate has no joints, the mortar does not require the formation of joints.

Any movement joints present in the support must also be reported on the covering.

In relation to the temperatures present, sanding can start from 2 to 5 days from the laying of the Venetian Terrazzo Resin Floor.

PROTECTION, TREATMENT AND MAINTENANCE

For optimal protection of the surface, easier maintenance and for a better aesthetic result it is recommended to perform a specific surface treatment. The floor must have proper maintenance and cleaning in accordance with our instructions. Consult our technical department.

PRECAUTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

EGEM Resinous Venetian Terrazzo Floor cannot be made in environments with constant presence of humidity or in outdoor environments.

It cannot be made at temperatures below 10 ° C or above 30 ° C

After sowing it is important to protect the surface from direct sunlight and strong air, to avoid rapid drying of Terrazzo.

EGEM Resinous Venetian Terrazzo must not come into contact with white metals such as aluminum and magnesium as they could be corroded.

PALLADIANA

FEATURES

Palladian Flooring is made up of fine marble chips, about 10 – 20 centimeters, broken with a hammer, laid on a concrete base. A joint is left between one scale and the other, filled with special compounds, usually cements combined with earths, oxides, stucco or by a Venetian Terrazzo Seed.

HOW A PALLADIANA FLOORING IS MADE

The realization of Palladiana Floor takes place on a layer of sand and reinforced concrete with a minimum thickness of about 4 cm, on which the marble flakes are laid. The joint between one slab and the other will be grouted with a mixture of cement, marble dust and natural oxides or with Venetian Terrazzo Seed.

The shape of the flakes can be irregular or customized according to the needs of the project.

Once the installation has been completed, proceed with sanding in order to obtain a perfect continuous surface. The finish of Palladiana flooring varies according to the project needs.

Palladiana can also be made in precast slabs. Particular attention must be paid in this case to the perimeter flakes that make up the Palladiana Precast slabs in order to obtain a homogeneous final effect after laying. The edges of Palladiana Slabs are slightly beveled in order to facilitate their installation, which can be done by local installers specialized in laying marble slabs. The installation can be carried out on supported slabs. Otherwise, it is possible to create Palladiana Slabs with sharp edges: in this case, the flooring needs to be smoothed once the installation has been completed.

WASHED GRAVEL

FEATURES

Whased Gravel is the Flooring that EGEM recommends for exteriors. It can be built in areas belonging to houses and villas, to create sidewalks, pedestrian and drive-through areas.

The Washed Gravel Flooring can be customized with different types of marble and the color of the mixture. It is a safe and resistant flooring, non-slip and with excellent frost behavior. It requires little maintenance and is practically always perfect

HOW WASHED GRAVEL FLOORING IS MADE

Washed Gravel Flooring is a handcrafted floor. The final yield depends above all on the skill of those who make it.

The marble granulate is mixed with cement, marble powders and natural colored oxides in order to create a uniform mixture.

The laying of the mixture takes place with a straightedge and subsequent smoothing by hand or with a trowel. We then proceed with the washing of the Washed Gravel Pavement with a pressure washer and the subsequent application of specific products that allow to highlight the granulate of the mixture. Subsequently, stain-resistant products are applied in order to minimize the routine maintenance of the finished flooring.

The Washed Gravel Flooring has a thickness of about 3 cm and is made on a specific concrete screed. It can also be built on top of existing flooring as long as it is solid and well preserved.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

EGEM contributes with its company policy to the achievement of the environmental sustainability objectives set by the United Nations 2030 agenda with the SDGs (Sustainable development goals).
In particular, among these he pays attention to No. 11 and No. 13.
EGEM Venetian Terrazzo is characterized by the careful choice of materials that compose it and the quality of its construction on site. The main objectives that EGEM sets itself are to create a flooring that aligns its life cycle with that of the building. A flooring that is durable and does not degrade its characteristics over time, uses recycled materials from the processing cycle of other products or from the use of the final consumer and applies processing systems and sealing products that do not emit pollutants in the environment of use.
With a view to transparency of information, EGEM has begun a process of enhancing these characteristics, verifying how much and how they can contribute to obtaining LEED® certification.
LEED® is the voluntary certification protocol for “Green Buildings” recognized as the most widespread internationally.
In this path EGEM has chosen to be supported by a professional accredited by Green Business Certification Inc. according to Iso Iec 17024 (Accreditation that demonstrates the knowledge and understanding of the practices and principles of green building necessary to support the use of the certification system LEED® Green Building).

Contribution of EGEM Venetian Terrazzo to obtaining LEED® credits
EGEM is developing internal company research to provide a range of products that can contribute to obtaining LEED® credits.

LEED®
LEED® is the world’s most popular green building assessment protocol, available for virtually any building. About 204.000 square meters of buildings are LEED® certified every day and in more than 165 countries around the world. LEED® certified buildings save energy, water, resources, generate less waste and are healthier for humans. They also attract potential users, determine lower management and maintenance costs, increase the productivity of those who work in them.
The LEED® protocol provides for the application of a series of “green” measures with reference to seven assessment areas, each of which is associated with a score.
Obtaining a certain number of points and compliance with the prerequisites for each assessment area determines the level of certification that can be achieved. The individual products, used in the building construction process, can contribute by their characteristics or construction methods to the implementation of specific “green” measures and therefore to obtaining certification.
